The US senator is expected to hold talks about the release of Yettaw and Suu Kyi and push for democratic changes in Myanmar. But nothing of short has been mentioned in the statement.
In May, US President Barack Obama extended for one year a ban on US investment in Myanmar imposed first in 1997 for political reason. As a follow-up, Obama renewed sanctions on the country mainly targeting imports from Myanmar.
Webb came over from Laos, the first leg of his tours to five Southeast Asian nations. He will proceed to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia after Myanmar visit.
Webb, a Vietnam war veteran and former US Navy Secretary, chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Sub-committee on East Asia and Pacific Affairs.
