London, Aug 6 - Nine Indian-origin people, including a teenage woman, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old Sikh kabaddi player in west-central England, local police said Thursday.

Suvinder Singh Batth, a well-known figure in British kabaddi circles, was shot and killed shortly after midnight July 28 outside a pub he owned at Bilston, Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands region - home to a large number of Britsh Sikhs.

The father of four was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital, West Midlands police said.

After the shooting, Batth was cradled at first in the arms of his son Gavin, after whom the bar is named.

A post mortem established he died from a single gunshot to his chest.

Moving swiftly, West Midlands police arrested nine people last week - all of Indian origin.

Six men and a woman appeared before magistrates in Wolverhampton Saturday and were remanded in custody.
