New York, July 27 - Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) secretary general Mushahid Hussain Syed has said if former president Pervez Musharraf is to be held accountable, then others who supported him are also answerable, any trial against him now will not be in the national interest.
'When Pervez Musharraf assumed the power (Oct 12, 1999) people distributed sweets in happiness and all cooperated with him, and now if has to be held accountable, then it should be for all, and not just him,' the secretary general said here Sunday.
'The masses are facing electricity outages, inflation and deteriorating law and order in the country. At this juncture of time, the country could not tolerate any sort of political confrontation and political vendetta. Political parties should unite to address the basic problems of the masses,' he told a TV channel.
He urged the Pakistani politicians not to support any dictator in the future and work for the promotion of democracy, the Online news agency reported.
