And tomatoes, peppers, courgettes and pears from Turkey will all have to be tested for pesticides, as will bananas and melons from the Dominican Republic and beans and aubergines from Thailand.
The new rules come as part of the EU's efforts to protect European citizens in the wake of a number of food and drink scares in recent years.
Commission officials stressed that the list will be revised before the rules come into force at the end of January, and that it will be regularly updated thereafter, so that products can be added to the list or deleted from it as necessary.
