New Delhi, Sep 10 - Delhi Police have arrested five people for their alleged involvement in a passport racket, officials said Thursday.

The accused used to prepare passports under 'Tatkal' scheme by using forged letterheads of army officers and forged verification by army officers, police said.

'Various incriminating documents used for getting passports under the 'Tatkal' scheme have been recovered,' said a senior police officer.

'One of the accused, Pradeep Sharma, was arrested on the basis of a secret information Sep 4 from near Regional Passport Office (RPO) at Bhikaji Cama Place along with incriminating documents,' the police officer added.

'At his instance, four other people - Nihal Singh, Prateek Jain, Shiv Lal and Sher Singh - were arrested. On interrogation, Sharma revealed that he worked as a broker in the passport office where he came in contact with the other accused Nihal Singh, who worked at the RPO,' the police officer added.

'Nihal, who worked as class-IV employee at the RPO office, played the role of a middle man between the dealing clerk and Pardeep Sharma,' the police said.

The police are further investigating the case.
