New Delhi, Sept 10 - Cautioning against creating excessive alarm over Chinese incursions into Indian territory, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Thursday said India was closely monitoring the situation and assured that there will be no lowering of defenses in this regard.
'India is monitoring the situation constantly and there can and will be no lowering of our defences in this regard. Our borders are secure and it serves no purpose to create excessive alarm,' Krishna told the Editors Guild of India.
'On the issue of border incursions, I would like to emphasize that there is an established mechanism to deal with such situations. Both sides have agreed that pending the resolution of the border issue, peace and tranquility must be maintained on the LAC (Line of Actual Control),' he said.
Admitting that there are differences on the boundary question, Krishna said the two sides are working towards a fair and reasonable settlement of the entire boundary, as per agreed guidelines.
In an interview to Headlines Today, Krishna said India was closely monitoring the Chinese build-up along Arunachal Pradesh.
