Shimla, Sep 10 - More than 140 people stranded in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district due to snowfall have been rescued, police said Thursday.
Superintendent of Police S.R. Rana said the people, including 22 foreigners, stuck at different locations around Sarchu in the district due to snowfall Wednesday evening were rescued.
'The Manali-Leh highway has been re-opened for the traffic as the snow-clearing operation was completed on the Rohtang Pass and the Baralacha Pass,' Rana told IANS by phone.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in middle and low hills during the past 48 hours wreaked havoc as landslides and uprooted trees brought traffic to a halt, causing inconvenience to thousands of tourists and local residents.
