Patna, Sep 6 - Armed criminals looted nearly a dozen handicapped passengers, and shot and injured one of them in the Danapur-Howrah express train in Bihar late Saturday night, police said Sunday.

The robbers shot and injured Vishwakarma Sharma, a school teacher before looting the other handicapped passengers on the train late Saturday night between Karauta and Bhakhtiyarpur stations near Patna.

'Soon after the train left Patna station, a dozen armed men, mostly youths, pretending to be passengers, boarded the special bogie for the handicapped at Khusrupur station and looted passengers at gun point,' police said.

Sharma was admitted to a hospital in Patna, where the doctors described his condition as stable, police said.

No arrests have been made till late Sunday evening.

Train robberies are quite common in Bihar. Last month, a passenger in the Kamla-Ganga intercity express train was shot dead by a gang of five armed criminals at Kanhiyapur halt near Barh railway station.

Khusrupur station also is near Barh, 122 km from Patna.
