Chandigarh, Sep 2 - Sikh clergy Wednesday welcomed the decision of the California state legislature in the US that passed a bill to train security personnel about Sikhs and the religious importance of 'kirpans'.
'We are very happy with this move of the US government. We want to give our best wishes to the US on this historic judgement,' Gurbachan Singh, chief of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, told IANS Wednesday evening.
'In our opinion, not only Sikhs but followers of every religion should have freedom to keep their religious marks (symbols) with them while staying anywhere on this earth. The US has set an example before others and we hope other countries will soon follow,' Singh said.
