Ghaziabad, Aug 31 - A 23-year-old man was allegedly crushed to death by a speeding truck triggering a violent protest near this Uttar Pradesh city Monday. Five policemen and a senior government official were injured innthe violence.

Police said Nadeem Khan was riding his bike when he was hit by a truck Monday morning. The truck driver fled the spot with the vehicle.

The accident sparked off protests with residents blocking the National Highway-24.

A police team led by sub-divisional magistrate (Hapur) Mahendra Prasad reached the spot and assured the mob of proper action into the matter.

But some people pelted stones and started beating the cops and the official, a police spokesman said.

The magistrate and five policemen were critically injured and were rushed to a hospital. Heavy police deployment was made in the area to defuse the tension.

Police have lodged a case under section 304(A) for the accidental.

A separate case has also been registered against 50 people who were allegedly involved in the violence following the accident. Nobody was arrested till late Monday evening.
