Greater Noida, Aug 31 - A businessman was shot dead while another was critically injured when two motorcycle borne assailants fired at them here, police said Monday.

The incident occurred late Sunday in the Dadri area of Greater Noida.

'Vinod Goel, president of the Dadri Vyapar Sangh was travelling on a motorcycle with another businessman Manoj Goel, when two motorcycle borne assailants opened fire on them,' a police officer said.

'Both Vinod Goel and Manoj Goel sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where Vinod Goel was declared dead and Manoj Goel's condition was said to be critical,' the police officer added.

Manoj Goel told police that the businessmen had been protesting against extortion by some local goons and it was possible that the attack had something to do with that.

'We are trying to nab the culprits,' the police officer said.
