London, Aug 24 (DPA) Everton have agreed to sell defender Joleon Lescott to Manchester City for an undisclosed fee, it said on its website Monday.
The 26-year-old, who had made it clear that he wanted to leave, is likely to command a transfer fee in the range of $39.6 million.
Everton initially rejected two offers.
'After the earlier bid, there was a change in the player's attitude,' a statement on the Everton website said.
'It was in the best interests of Everton if they allowed him to leave.'
The move is subject to a medical test and Lescott agreeing to personal terms with City.
City have already spent more than 100 million pounds this summer on players, including Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Everton manager David Moyes had admitted Sunday that he was resigned to losing Lescott.
