Sydney, Aug 18 - Australia's relationship with India 'goes beyond the oft-cited notion of cricket, curry and Commonwealth', a parliamentarian said Tuesday.
West Australian MP Melissa Parke said Australia and India had strong links that were both substantial and symbolic and growing, Daily Telegraph reported.
'There is a genuine and long-standing warmth of regard felt by Australia and Australians for India and its people that I believe goes beyond the oft-cited notion of cricket, curry and Commonwealth,' she was quoted as saying.
She was speaking after tabling the parliamentary committee report on relations with India as an emerging world power.
Her report refers to India's development into a global and regional nation of enormous significance and 'it acknowledges India's success as the world's largest democracy and as a nation with an outward looking and resolutely independent foreign policy'.
It also recognised the importance of India's very substantial military capability.
