Tokyo, Aug 13 (Xinhua) An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale rocked Japan's Hachijojima island, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Thursday.
The epicentre of the quake, which occurred at 7.49 a.m. Thursday (2249 GMT Wednesday), was located some 40 km under the sea off Hachijojima, said the agency.
No tsunami warning was issued. The island is located about 280 km south of Tokyo.
The tremor was also felt in Tokyo as well as Fukushima, Chiba, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
