London, Aug 10 - England team officials Monday defended their decision to pull out from the World Badminton Championships in Hyderabad, claiming that the security was 'very lax' and they have not over-reacted by flying back home.
'We don't think we have over-reacted. We were very clear with our expectations of security before the championships,' Badminton England's (BE) chief executive Adrian Christy was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.
'We were not particularly impressed with the level of security that we were faced with.'
BE performance director Ian Moss while adding that security was 'very lax' in India, said: 'There was a security presence, but it was not one we had a great level of comfort with.'
Christy also spoke of his 'disappointment' over comments from the Scottish team, which accused England of having gone too far.
Anne Smillie, chief executive of Badminton Scotland, earlier in the day said that English players would have to live with the knowledge that they had pulled out of a major world event.
