Lagos (Nigeria), July 31 (Prensa Latina) At least 600 people were killed in clashes this week between the security forces and Islamist militants in Nigeria, the police said.
The Nigerian Army said the battle against the militants will continue till the rebels are defeated.
Meanwhile, the fighting in Maiduguri city, capital of the northeastern Borno state, under control of Islamist militants, continued for the fifth day Friday.
The Maiduguri city has been the headquarters of Boko Haram, an Islamic insurgent group.
The Nigerian security forces launched a massive operation against the group Monday after the rebels attacked the government facilities in the city. The rebels also attacked a police station.
At least 600 people, including militants, have been killed in the violence so far.
Experts say widespread poverty, corruption and political instability have pushed the country into chaos and insecurity.
