London, July 25 - Thin film cells which are considered to be the next generation of solar cells promise much greater efficiency. They are expected to be much cheaper due to lower requirement of material and energy in their production.

The solar cells designed by the University of Luxembourg (UL) are based on a semiconductor made up of copper, indium, gallium and selenium (CIGS), and promise superior performance.
