Kolkata, July 18 - The West Bengal unit of the Congress Saturday said it will continue the state-wide agitation protesting an attack by supporters of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on its legislators in Burdwan district last week.
'We have taken a decision in our core committee meeting that Congress would launch a state-wide protest by organising rallies, meetings and sit-in demonstration from August this year,' West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee working president Subrata Mukhopadhyay told reporters.
A 14-member delegation, led by Congress Legislative Party (CLP) chief Manas Bhuinya, was allegedly beaten up by CPI-M supporters in Mongolkote Wednesday.
The team of Congress legislators had gone there to distribute relief material among party supporters whose houses were burnt after the murder of CPI-M district committee member Falguni Mukherjee June 16.
