Manila, July 18 (DPA) The Philippines will implement additional security measures in the capital to prevent terrorist attacks after the bombings in the Indonesian capital that killed nine people and injured more than 50 others, a senior official said Saturday.

Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno said more than 200 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras would be installed in strategic areas around metropolitan Manila, such as shopping malls, cinemas and transport terminals, to boost police surveillance.

Puno added that there will be increased police checkpoints and more sniffer dogs will be deployed in strategic areas to serve as a deterrent to terrorists.

Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina, a police spokesman, said police were already on heightened alert across the Philippines after Friday's bomb attacks in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

Espina said police have sought the help of civilian organisations in checking suspicious people and vehicles in their communities.
