New Delhi, Sep 4 - A Palestinian, who arrived in India in 1996 on student visa, has been arrested for fraudulently obtaining an Indian voter identity card from the Election Commission of India, Delhi Police said Friday.
Police swung into action after receiving information from the Foreigners Regional Registration Organisation (FRRO) about a Palestinian citizen, Baseel Y.S. Nasrallah, obtaining an Indian voter identity card from the Election Commission.
'Acting on the input from FRRO, we formed a team and found that Nasrallah was living in a rented house in Kishangarh village (in south Delhi) with his Indian wife,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police H.G.S. Dhaliwal.
Nasrallah was arrested and on further investigation the voter identity card number CPJ 1166354 was found in his possession.
'During interrogation he admitted that he was a Palestinian citizen and fraudulently obtained the Indian voter I-card,' Dhaliwal added.
A case has been registered against him at the Mehrauli police station.
Nasrallah came to India for the first time in 1996 on student visa on a passport issued from Jordan.
