New Delhi, Sep 3 - A spell of heavy rains Thursday night saw chaos again on the capital's streets as roads got flooded and traffic lights stopped working, leading to traffic jams.

The rains started at around 9 p.m. and it soon began to pour. The rain tapered off in an hour, but that was enough to see long queues of vehicles on the flooded streets and drivers honking wearily at 10.30 p.m., desperate to get to their destination.

Mala Jain, whose car was stuck in a jam on the Ring Road near Vasant Vihar, said she was quite exasperated with the traffic jams every time it rained heavily in the city.

'I had gone out for dinner to a restaurant and was not aware it was raining outside. When driving back (to Gurgaon) it took very long as half the Ring Road was full of water and the cars were crawling. The traffic signals were not working, and there were no policemen either to help us,' she said.
