Sydney, Aug 27 - An Australian teacher found a knife in the school bag of a six-year-old student who had threatened to stab another student in a Gold Coast school, a media report said.

The kitchen knife was found in the schoolbag of a Year One student by a teacher at Southport State School, News.com.au reported Thursday.

The boy had allegedly threatened to stab another student, according to ABC Radio.

'I understand a knife was found in a student's bag and that the knife was removed immediately by the teacher and that there was no harm at any time in relation to the other students,' Gold Coast region's executive director of schools Richard English was quoted as saying.

He said the school was investigating the history of the student and the boy who was allegedly threatened.

Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said police were investigating the incident.

'Up until the age of 10, no child is criminally responsible for what they do but we can provide counselling,' Atkinson was quoted as saying.
